Man Arrested for Several Shooting Incidents, Police Say

Earl Cohen faces three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.

The Newark Police Department’s fugitive squad Tuesday arrested a city man wanted for several weapons offenses, Detective Eugenio Gonzalez said.

An investigation into the whereabouts of Earl Cohen, 39, led police to the 10-block area of Rockland Terrace, where he was arrested at about 8:30 am. Cohen, who allegedly fired weapons in connection with several incidents, has been charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.

Cohen was arrested in May after being treated at East Orange General Hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg. Cohen told officers he’d been shot as he stood near Sanford and South Orange avenues, police said. Police subsequently concluded, however, that Cohen had actually shot himself and charged him with hindering prosecution.
