Dejesus arrested while allegedly trying to flee robbery scene

On Sunday, police officers from the Newark Police Department 2nd Precinct arrested a Newark resident for possession of narcotics, a department spokesman said Tuesday.

Police were called to 243 Clifton Ave. around 9:20 pm Sunday night on a report of an armed robbery being carried out by several police, Det. Eugenio Gonzalez said. Carmelo Dejesus, 42, was arrested as he was running from the scene, Gonzalez said.

An investigation led police to Dejesus’s apartment, where officers reportedly found 764 grams of marijuana and about $1,200 in cash, Gonzalez said. Dejesus has been charged with resisting arrest as well as possession and distribution of narcotics.
