Police Exchange Gunfire with Suspect Sunday
Officers unhurt, suspect escaped and condition is unknown.
A Newark police officer fired at an armed suspect during a foot chase Sunday night, department spokesman Sgt. Ron Glover said.
Police were chasing the man on foot around 7 pm near Clinton Avenue and S. 10th St. when he fired at the pursuing officers, Glover said. One of the officers then returned fire.
No police officer was injured. It was unclear if the suspect, who escaped, was hurt, Glover also said. Police are searching for the suspect.
