Police Seek Help Identifying Gas Station Shooting Suspect

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of killing another man last Friday inside a Newark gas station.

Hykine Johnson, 35, of Newark, was fatally shot at a gas station on the corner of Washington and Court streets at around 7:45 p.m., according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

He was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 8:10 p.m.

Johnson was likely targeted in the shooting, authorities said.

According to photos from a surveillance video that police released, the suspect appears to be wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
