Sheriff's Officers Say Man was Carrying Large Quantity of Heroin

Arrest made in North Ward Tuesday

A city man was arrested Tuesday after he was found in possession of thousands of dollars’ worth of heroin, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from the patrol division were conducting quality of life operations at Victoria Avenue and Mt. Prospect Street, a known high drug trafficking area, late on Tuesday evening.

Officers reportedly observed the suspect, later identified as Victor Ramos, 37, speak briefly with a passerby. Suspecting a drug deal was about to occur,  officers approached Ramos and searched him, allegedly finding five bricks of heroin, or a total of 250 envelopes, with a street value of about $2,500.
