Small Fire May Have Been Caused by Molotov Cocktail

No one hurt at three-family home

Newark fire officials are investigating a fire Tuesday that may have been caused by a Molotov cocktail, a department spokesman said.

Capt. John Brown said a small fire started on the first floor of 392 New St. around 8 pm. People were home at the three-story residence and the fire was quickly extinguished. A front window was damaged, Brown said. No one was hurt.

Fire officials believe the fire may have started when a Molotov cocktail, a bottle containing a flammable liquid often used during street fighting around the world, was thrown through the window.

A final determination had yet to be made Tuesday night, Brown told Patch.
