Child still in critical condition after found with multiple stab wounds Saturday night; woman found dead Sunday morning.

Authorities are investigating a pair of incidents Saturday night and early Sunday morning — involving a child with multiple stab wounds and a woman found dead by police — that may be related.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced in a press release Sunday afternoon in the first incident an unidentified boy, believed to be between eight or nine years old, was found outside in the 200-block of Morris Avenue with multiple stab wounds. The child was rushed to University Hospital where he remained in critical condition, according to the release.

In the second incident, the body of an unidentified black woman was found Sunday morning on Newton Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene and appeared to have stab wounds as well, according to the press release. The exact cause and manner of death are expected to be determined at an autopsy on Monday.
