Teen Killed in Garside Street Shooting

Authorities investigating the killing of 17-year-old Newark resident.

Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old male on Garside Street Saturday night, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Juan Cabrera, of Newark, was pronounced dead at University Hospital shortly before midnight, the prosecutor's office said.

The prosecutor's office said the responded to the shots reported on the 200 block of Garside Street at about 10:25 p.m Saturday.

The incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
