Two Men Killed Sunday Morning

Victims shot hours apart

Two city men were shot and killed early this morning, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and Newark police announced.

In the first incident, police responded to the area of 35 Harding Terrace shortly before 1 am on reports of a shooting. Arriving officers discovered that two males had been shot at this location. one of the victims, Kendal Spear, 21, was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 1:12 a.m. The second victim survived and has been hospitalized.

A few hours later, around 4 a.m., police responded to the 300 block of South 19th Street on a report of a shooting. The victim, Shamone Gugliemini, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both incidents are being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
