Two More Killed in Newark This Week

Five people have been murdered since Sunday

Two people were killed in Newark since Tuesday afternoon, the fourth and fifth homicides in the city since Sunday, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and published reports.

Kendell Owens of Newark was shot “several times” near Osborne Terrace and Clinton Avenue around 3:45 pm Tuesday afternoon, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly said. Owens, 18, was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 5:28 pm.

Owens appears to have been targeted, Fennelly also said.

Another fatal shooting occurred shortly after midnight Wednesday, Fennelly told NJ.com. Fennelly declined to release information about the victim in that shooting, which occurred in the 900 block of S. 20th Street.

On Sunday, one man was shot, followed by two more killed in the same incident Monday night. Officials have said it is unclear if the shootings over the last three days are connected.
