Two Newarkers Arrested for Allegedly Raping College Student

Teen and 26-year-old man accused of raping 18-year-old at gunpoint in Irvington Park

Two Newark residents, including a 17-year-old boy, are accused of raping a college student at gunpoint in Irvington Monday evening.

The victim, an 18-year-old college student who was returning from class Monday, was getting off a bus at around 6:40 p.m. when she was approached by the two, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The men, who tried to talk to her, pulled a gun on her when she rebuffed them and forced her into Irvington Park. The two then allegedly raped her at gunpoint.

The teenager and Derrick Baker, 26, were arrested and charged Tuesday morning with one count of first degree kidnapping, one count of first degree robbery and three counts of first degree aggravated sexual assault. The juvenile's name is not being released at this time, the prosecutor's office said.
