Two Shot, Wounded in Newark Early This Week

Both shootings under investigation

Two people were shot within hours of each other late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, Det. Eugenio Gonzalez of the Newark Police Department said.

Police responded to the 300 block of Lyons Avenue around 10 pm Monday night, where a 35-year-old man had been shot. The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to University Hospital, Gonzalez said.

Shortly before 1 am Tuesday, police responded to a second shooting along Muhammad Ali Avenue after getting an alert from an electronic “shot-spotter” monitor, Gonzalez said. The 24-year-old victim in that incident was also taken to University for treatment.
