Men arrested in the Garden Spires apartment complex

Two Newark men were arraigned Monday on various weapons and drug charges following their arrest Friday by Essex County Sheriff's officers, authorities said.

Officers Dennis Kihlberg and Christopher Bozios were on a quality of life patrol in the area of 195 1st Street in Newark at noon Friday when they saw a man, later identified as Al-Tamese Green, 18, talking to another male and the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Officers approached the men to investigate after they saw Green allegedly throw a small package into the rear of the vehicle.

Kihlberg, who searched the vehicle, discovered the package that had been thrown by Green, which contained 10 glassine envelopes containing heroin and stamped "100% PURE" in red ink. Green was placed under arrest at that time.

A fourth male, identified as Ibn Allen, 21, was placed under arrest for obstructing the administration of justice and resisting arrest after he demanded to know what had happened and refused to leave the scene. He was issued summonses for his charges and released.

The driver of the Jeep was records checked, which proved negative for open warrants, and released.

Allen was charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and resisting arrest. He was also found to be wanted on an open criminal warrant issued by the Newark municipal court for shoplifting.

Green was charged with with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of Dr. E. Alma Flagg School and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of Branch Brook Park.

Judge Roslyn Holmes-Grant ordered Allen to be held on a $65,000 cash bond and Green held on a $10,000 cash bond at Monday's arraignment. Both men are held in the Essex County Correctional Facility.
