Two Teens Dead, One Youth Wounded in Christmas Shooting

Kids gunned down at about 10 p.m. Wednesday in city's South Ward.

Two teens were fatally shot and a third child was critically wounded in a Christmas shooting in Newark, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

A 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were pronounced dead Wednesday night at University Hospital. The girl died at 10:38 p.m. and the boy was pronounced at 10:47 p.m., a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office said.

The third victim, a 14-year-old boy, was in critical but stable condition at University Hospital, the prosecutor's office said late Wednesday night.

The killings took place at about 10 p.m. Wednesday on the 100 block of Schley Street in the city's South Ward, Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio told The Star-Ledger.

The Newark Police and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting.
