The scene Friday afternoon was quiet with no memorial and no residents milling around the streets. The only sign that any crime took place was what seemed like a relatively new Newark Crime Stoppers sign stapled to a telephone pole at the corner.

Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly, director of the prosecutor's office homicide unit, said the investigation remains "active and ongoing."
