A 33-year-old Newark resident from the city's West Ward Vailsburg neighborhood was shot dead early Friday morning, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray.
Murray said Idris King was shot in the vicinity of Pershing and Delvin avenues, near the Elizabeth border. She said King was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:23 a.m.
Murray said no motive has been determined and no suspects have been identified.
The scene Friday afternoon was quiet with no memorial and no residents milling around the streets. The only sign that any crime took place was what seemed like a relatively new Newark Crime Stoppers sign stapled to a telephone pole at the corner.
Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly, director of the prosecutor's office homicide unit, said the investigation remains "active and ongoing."
Anyone with information regarding the homicide is urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office tip line at 1-877-847-7432.
