Lonegan to Sue Booker Over Expense Reports

Republican U.S. Senate candidate filed an open public records request that went unanswered by City of Newark, report says.

Steve Lonegan is taking his fight against Newark Mayor Cory Booker to the courts.

Lonegan, the Republican candidate for Sen. Frank Lautenberg’s seat in congress, announced Wednesday that he would sue his Democratic rival because Booker hadn’t released his expense reports.

The reports have been a Lonegan target for weeks but the Booker administration has been silent on Lonegan's Open Public Records Act request, the Republican's campaign said this week.

According to Lonegan, Newark officials received confirmed receipt of the OPRA request July 31, and after 30 days, the city had not answered any portion of the request.

Lonegan was set to host a press conference on the steps of Newark’s City Hall Thursday afternoon to push the issue, according to an NJ.com report.
