Essex County College Offering February Classes

Sessions in anger management, starting a day care and expunging a criminal record among offerings

 The Women’s Center at Essex County College has scheduled several workshops and seminars that will begin in February. All classes are held at the center on the main Newark campus.

Anger Management Workshop is a four session program intended to help participants understand and control anger. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. The class will met Tuesdays, starting February 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuition is $80.

How to Write a Business Plan is a three session course designed to help individuals in developing a plan for his or her new business. The class will meet Saturdays, starting February 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Topics to be covered include critical components of the business plan for new and expanding businesses, the sales and business strategies which reflect the market, and other important forces. Cost of the class is $150.

So You Want to be an Entrepreneur is a free, one evening session February 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.  Learn how to focus on what it takes to develop your own business and how your business idea can turn into reality.

Windows with Word – Intermediate is a hands-on next step to Windows and MS Word. The two session class is designed for people who have completed an introductory course or who have a basic computer understanding. The class will meet for 10 sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting February 19, from 5:15 to 6:35 p.m. Cost is $165.

How to Start Your Day Care is a four session program covering essential information and requirements for starting up a day care center. Participants will learn about state regulations, certification and policies, along with resources necessary for successful maintenance and operation of these vital centers. The class will meet Mondays, starting February 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. Total cost of the program is $95.

Business Formation focuses on choosing a legal structure when starting a business. The two session workshop covers the various types of business legal formations, the advantages/disadvantages of each, exposure to financial risk and partnership agreements. The class will meet February 25 and 27, 6 to 8 p.m. each evening Cost is $55.

Social Media for Small Business outlines how participants can better leverage social media networks to create new business opportunities and better reach customers. The workshop will be held February 27, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuition is $30.

Public Speaking with Confidence is a one session class February 28 that explores the importance of communicating effectively as well as expressing one’s self with style and clarity in any situation. The class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuition is $20.

Expungement of Criminal Records is a three session workshop that states how having a criminal record can affect employment and housing opportunities. The class will also examine how one can be free or his or past in this regard. The class will meet Thursdays, starting February 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $75.
