Newark Public Schools Closed Friday
Heavy snow followed by extremely cold temperatures blast the area.
The Newark Public Schools will be closed Friday due to the snowstorm, the district said in a statement Thursday.
"In the interest of safety for our students and staff, and due to severe and hazardous weather conditions that have been reported by the National Weather Service, all Newark Public Schools and Central Office will be closed Friday, January 3, 2014," the statement read in part.
All events, community meetings and other after-school programs are also canceled. Decisions on the cancellation of sporting events will be made by state high school athletics officials.
