A Night of Tango and a Day of Art

What's happening in Newark this weekend

Newark Symphony Hall Friday is hosting a spicy evening of tango. “Tango Lovers” features an all-star cast of some of the best dancers from the heartland of the art, Argentina and Uruguay. Tango Lovers blends the different sensations of tango, taking them to high levels through a display of dance, lighting and stunning dresses, walking the audience through different stages and nuances of tango.

On Saturday, “Jan Sawka and the Artist’s Role in the Changing World,” a symposium, will be held at the Paul Robeson Galleries at Rutgers University, 350 Martin Luther King Blvd., from noon to 5 pm.

The symposium will use the work of the late Polish-American artistv Jan Sawka as a jointing-off point to explore the intersection of art and activism. Speakers Frank Boyer, Jeffrey Goldfarb and Cynthia Nadelman will present on The subversive
