The Newark Public Library has fiction and nonfiction titles, Internet access and computer classes. Its Weequahic branch offers an extensive collection of African-American novels, bilingual service, and community meeting rooms. Special activities are held throughout the year, including the Summer Reading Challenge and after-school arts and crafts. The library's Little/Big Readers Club and South Newark Literary Society meet one Wednesday a month.
