Ballot Basics: Voters Head to the Polls Tuesday

10th Congressional Democratic race has an interesting twist

Tuesday, June 5, is primary election day, when voters will select their party’s candidates for a variety of elected offices, from President of the United States to member of the county committee. Both parties’ winners Tuesday will stand in the general election to be held in November. Polls will be open tomorrow from 6 am to 8 pm. Congress One of the most hotly contested races this year is the Democratic Party nomination for the 10th Congressional District seat, which is being sought by six candidates. The district includes much of Newark as well as parts of West Orange, Montclair and Bloomfield, as well as all of Irvington, East Orange, Glen Ridge, South Orange and Maplewood in Essex County. Congressional Race Town Hall Debate Scheduled

Seven Seeking to Become 10th District Representative to Congress

All Politics is Local, a show broadcast on WRNU, the Rutgers University radio station, and the Rutgers-Newark campus are sponsoring a 10th District Town Hall Debate at the Rutgers Paul Robeson Center’s multi-purpose room, 350 Martin Luther King Blvd. The town hall will be held May 24 from 6 to 9 pm. Six candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat on June 5, the date of the primary. They are Newark Municipal Council members Donald Payne Jr.. Ron Rice Jr., along with state Sen. Nia Gill, Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith, Dennis Flynn and Cathy Wright. Brian Keleman is seeking the Republican nomination for the seat.
