Powerball Jackpot Soars to $600M for Saturday Drawing

If you draw the Powerball winning numbers in Saturday’s lottery, you could score $600 million, the largest Powerball jackpot ever.

Powerball results were watched closely Wednesday when the jackpot was $363 million. After no one picked all six winning numbers, the new Powerball prize for the Saturday, May 18, drawing is now $600 million, which makes it the highest Powerball jackpot ever — and the second-highest U.S. lottery jackpot. The one-time cash payout is estimated at $376.9 million. Tickets are $2 and the game is played in New Jersey and 42 other states, including New York, Florida, Texas and California. Tickets will be sold up to an hour before the 11 p.m. drawing. The largest Powerball Jackpot cash payout to date was a $384 million win on Nov. 28, 2012, in Arizona and Missouri. I have no problem with "Captains of Industry" being exclusive about the cultural criteria by which they judge others. Meritocracy is a good ideal. I don't like seeing it undermined. My issue is that a lottery winner clearly isn't a "Captain of Industry." Ferry Street Store Sells $1M Lottery Ticket

Ferry 99 sells one of two $1 million Powerball tickets

Someone is $1 million richer after purchasing a winning Powerball lottery ticket from a Newark store. The winning ticket, which has not yet been claimed, was purchased from Ferry 99, a shop in the city's East Ward, lottery officials announced Monday. There was no jackpot winner of the Powerball game, which held its drawing on Saturday, but another $1 million winning Powerball ticket was sold in Cape May County. Four other $10,000 tickets were sold in New Jersey. The winning numbers for the Saturday drawing were: 22, 32, 37, 44 and 50. The red powerball number was 34. Newark Shop Sells Jersey Cash 5 Lottery Ticket Worth $34K

Garden Cafe, located inside University Hospital, sells third winning ticket in one year

One Newark shop is on quite a winning streak. Garden Cafe, located in the cafeteria of The University Hospital, sold its third winning ticket in one year, this time for Thursday night's Jersey Cash 5 drawing worth $34,613. Another ticket, worth the same amount, was sold in Paterson at Jenessy Liquors (299 Grand St.). "Wow, so we're hot!" said George Hariton, manager of Garden Cafe, when reached by phone Friday morning. Hariton said Garden Cafe, which has a lottery machine and instant ticket vending machine, sells a "fair amount" of lottery tickets – and winning ones, at that.
