10 Injured After Bus, Taxi Collide on Market Street

City police say commuters should avoid the intersection of Market and Washington streets while officials investigate.

Nearly a dozen people were taken to the hospital as a result of a crash between a NJ Transit bus and a taxi near the intersection of Market and Washington streets early Thursday morning.

The Newark Penn Station-bound bus caused structural damage to a Market Street building following the crash at approximately 12:40 a.m., according to NJ.com.

The drivers of the bus and taxi, along with eight passengers, were injured in the accident. The bus driver was released from the hospital later Thursday morning, NJ.com reported.

A crash investigation is ongoing, Newark detectives told reporters with the Star-Ledger.

The accident had been snarling traffic throughout the city all morning, and police tweeted that commuters should avoid the intersection.
