Dog Bolts from Plane at Newark Liberty Wednesday

Owner brought in to retrieve cornered dachshund

A small dog escaped from a plane at Newark Liberty Airport Wednesday night and scampered around on the runways for an hour before its owner was able to retrieve it,  according to Port Authority spokespeople and published reports.

“Henry” the dachshund somehow bolted free from a flight shortly after 7 pm and ran around the tarmac before being cornered near a fence. But Port Authority police were unable to capture the animal, eventually getting the dog’s owner, a Mercer County woman, to lure the dog back into custody.

It was not known whether there were any flight delays due to the dog’s escape, a Port Authority spokesman also said.
