Reward Offered in Torching of Newark Mayoral Candidate's Campaign Bus

Authorities investigating fire intentionally set to Ras Baraka's unoccupied bus over the weekend on Central Avenue.

A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrests of those responsible for torching Newark mayoral candidate Ras Baraka's campaign bus over the weekend.

The Newark Fire Department extinguished a small fire inside the bus, which was not occupied and parked on the 400 block of Central Avenue, at about 7 a.m. Sunday, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. No one was injured in the blaze.

A preliminary investigation determined the fire was intentionally set and is being probed by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Task Force.

The Essex County Sheriff's Office Crime Stoppers Program is offering a $1,000 reward. Anyone with information should contact the Major Crimes tips line at 877-847-7432.
