Report: Ziyad Out as Fire Director

Move part of shakeup following Booker's departure from city hall

The administration of Mayor Luis Quintana has installed a new director for the Newark Fire Department, part of a shakeup in the city’s administration that began last week, The Star Ledger reported.

Fateen Ziyad, who since 2010 ran the 600-person department alongside Chief John Centanni, was ousted in a changing of the guard that saw others appointed by former Mayor Cory Booker, including the communications director and the head of the city housing agency, also removed from their posts.

Quintana was named interim mayor after Booker was elected to the US Senate in October.
