Supreme Court Won't Hear Sharpe James Appeal

Former mayor fighting 2008 corruption conviction

The United States Supreme Court ruled Monday it would not entertain an appeal by former Mayor Sharpe James, The Washington Post reported.

James, who had been convicted in 2008 of engineering illegal deals with city land in 2008, was seeking to overturn the decision based on the fact that one of the jurors in his trial failed to disclose that his parents had been hired by James for city work.

James was released from prison in the spring of 2010. His son, John Sharpe James, is running for a seat on the municipal council in November.
