Man Sought in Torching of Mayoral Candidate's Campaign Bus

Authorities seek identity of man seen in the area where Ras Baraka's bus was set on fire Sunday morning.

Authorities seek the identity of a man seen on surveillance video in the area where Newark mayoral candidate Ras Baraka's campaign bus was set on fire Sunday morning.

The video shows a white or Hispanic man, approximately 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, light-colored blue jeans and black boots, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The man was seen Sunday morning near Baraka's campaign headquarters at 423 Central Ave., where the interior of the mayoral candidate's bus was found on fire at about 7:10 a.m., the prosecutor's office said.

The bus was empty and no one was injured.

The Essex County Sheriff's Office is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
